Vintage Video Games – Still As Popular As Ever

It defies logic really that in this day and age retro video games can still hold appeal, even the generation that was brought up with Commodore 64 games and various Amiga, Atari & Armstrad games now use today super powerful consoles. So why do Vintage Video Games still have such mass market appeal?

The type of games and systems that make us feel nostalgic vary from person to person, however amongst the aforementioned systems there was of course the Nintendo NES, SNES and Gamecube, The SEGA Master System, Mega Drive & Dreamcast as well as hand held consoles, but the games with the biggest following hail from the 80′s. The biggest players in those days were the large range of Amiga Consoles and it was for these that many of the best remembered classic arcade games were initially produced for.

The games themselves are archiac in comparison to Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii games of this generation. The gameplay was simpler generally and the graphics could not begin to match todays games. Take the game Kick Off 2 for instance, an Amiga soccer game, The pitch is giant, all graphics are from overhead and the game moves at an incredible pace, compare that to someting like Fifa World Cup on any new sytems and there is simply no competition, or so you would think. Anyone trying out Amiga games today whether they are originals played on the console or remakes for the PC will find themselves up very late at night playing these graphically inferior games till either their head explodes or they go blind. Hours and Hpours slip by playing these wonderfully addictive games that keep you hooked in a way that many of todays platforms and games fail to achieve.

Same question again, why do Vintage Video Games still have such mass market appeal?

Answer. Simple gameplay, engaging characters, loads of fun, simple objectives and the most important factor……They never took themselves too seriously.
