Swine Flu And Bird Flu, What Are The Precautions To Take And What Treatments Are Available
Posted August 28th, 2009 by SpikeToday we are (more and more|more} at risk from various mutations of the flu virus. First we had alarms over bird flu, and recently swine flu has become the major worry. Swine flu is more serious than bird flu was. It was feared that bird flu could mutate into a form that would effect humans, but for a few cases, this has not materialized. Swine flu is of much more worry, swine flu has the ability to spread between humans making it a dangerous threat.
Swine flu (influenza A (H1N1) is a disease that infects pigs and is the result of a flu virus. Swine flu outbreaks in pigs is is common and is rarely fatal. Swine flu doesn’t normally infect humans, but it can happen occasionally.
Swine flu is extremely dangerous as it is a new strain of the flu virus. It is dangerous because no one has been in contact with this particular type of flu before, and therefore no one has developed any immunity to this flu strain. It is our inbuilt immunity that stops diseases from becoming life threatening, with no immunity to this virus we are in serious danger from the virus. Everyone is vulnerable, this includes healthy adults as well as young children and the elderly.
The real worry is what occurs when the winter flu season arrives. This is the period when the flu virus may spread quickly causing a flu pandemic with the potential for over half of the population being affected.
Swine flu symptoms are similar to the symptoms of ordinary flu. The symptoms include a sudden, sudden onset of fever, cough or a shortness of breath. Other symptoms that may present themselves include headache, a sore throat, aching muscles, chills, sneezing, a runny nose, loss of appetite and tiredness.
So what precautions can we take. Anyone with cold or flu symptoms needs to take a few simple, but very important precautions. The virus is spread between humans by the small droplets from the mouth and nose when someone coughs or sneezes. This is the way viruses such as swine flu are spread from person to person. Holding your nose and mouth with your hands when you cough or sneeze is not enough. The germs simply sit on your hands, and everything you handle afterwards becomes contaminated. Anyone then touching anything you touched will pick up the germs and will then risk becoming infected themselves. Always use a handkerchief or a tissue. A tissue is better, this should then be disposed of safely as soon as you can, try to use a fresh tissue if you cough or sneeze again.
There are currently no vaccinations that prevent anyone catching swine flu. Swine flu is a new type of virus and is not the same as seasonal flu. The annual vaccination against the normal ordinary flu is not effective against swine flu. Even when the type of flu virus causing swine flu is identified, it will take several months to produce. By which time, it may have mutated into a different strain.
The only effective treatment against swine flu is Tamiflu. Tamiflu isn’t guaranteed to stop flu, but when someone has been exposed to another person who is carrying the flu virus, Tamiflu can help prevent the virus making a person sick. If Tamiflu is taken within two days of developing flu, it can help to stop the virus spreading throughout the body, reducing the symptoms and associated risk. Governments are stockpiling Tamiflu, but these supplies will be used to treat important workers and individuals before the general population.
You can however buy Tamiflu online, if the situation arises you can protect yourself and your family as much as possible. It can’t be emphasized enough, Tamiflu needs to be taken as soon as possible if it is to be effective, delays in treating the flu virus will reduce the effectiveness of Tamiflu. If you are at a higher risk due to your situation, such as For example living in a city with a large population or for example working in a busy office, then it may be wise to buy Tamiflu before the winter flu season starts. If you live in the country and do not have a close contact with many people then you will be at a lower risk.
Also, remember that swine flu is a worldwide problem. If a pandemic outbreak becomes global it is possible that supplies of Tamiflu may not be great enough to meet a large worldwide demand.
Until a vaccine is discovered and manufactured in the quantities needed, Tamiflu is the most effective treatment for swine flu.
